Auto Accidents and the Body

Some people believe that if there are no broken bones after an accident, everything is fine. Often, true symptoms do not appear for days, or sometimes weeks, after the accident.

When your vehicle stops suddenly, your body wants to continue its forward motion. Seat belts, steering wheels, and other parts of the car stop that motion. Meanwhile, your head stays in place momentarily, before snapping forward and then back.

This rapid motion affects the muscles and ligaments around the bones involved. When stretched and quickly released, the ligaments are strained, and muscles have to work harder to hold everything in place. Muscle spasms are often the result.

How We Help You

Adjusting patient's neckWhiplash is the most common injury sustained in a crash. With the sudden stop, the head is jerked forward and back, often slamming into the headrest. The muscles are unable to protect the spine, and damage to muscles, ligaments, nerves, and vertebral discs can occur.

Collisions at speeds as low as 5 mph have been shown to cause whiplash injuries, especially in the neck. If an assessment is not done soon after the accident, when the problem is discovered, it can linger for a long time. Long-term effects from untreated whiplash include spinal degeneration, increased stiffness, and joint immobility.

It becomes more difficult to treat the pain, will take much longer to heal, and the results may not be as good as if you receive treatment right away. Also, caring for whiplash clients is different from a typical chiropractic patient, as a little more care needs to be taken. And Dr. Danon is highly qualified to do exactly that.
